As you can see a bit of a crash.
Early 60's at the Fitzherbert bridge on the East side of Palmerston North. There was earthworks up the Fitzherbert Hill and this Allis Chambers HD 21 was working alongside a Terex TS 14 motor scraper.
The storey is like this. Some naughty students (the days before interest free loans from guess who) started up this large dozer and lined it up across the bridge at night time. Not sure that they put on the hazard lights or a stop go man with 100 orange cones, that is unlikely. Anyway once it was line up the driver took off leaving the dozer to its own wilful way.
The unfortunate car to come under the might of the mighty Allis was a 58 Holden. The driver also must have been a good runner too and I’m sure the airbags went off and he lived happily ever after.
Not sure whether the student got caught, but no doubt got a degree in law without a free loan.
