We review some of the reasons why it is so important to have a clear top on a tilt bucket (not having any rams lying horizontally across it). We have also included a great tip to help you if you do have a tilt bucket with this design!
1) Clear line of sight. With a clear top on the bucket you gain extra visibility and are able to easily look over the top of the bucket to where you are working - your vision is not being obstructed by rams lying horizontally on top of the bucket
2) No material packing under cylinders. With no rams/cylinders lying horizontally across the top of the bucket you remove the risk of bending the rams from material (stones etc.) packing underneath them. Material will simply flow over the top of the bucket and will not get caught up in anything.
3) No dirt around moving parts. With the top of the bucket clear there is no chance for dirty material to interfere with the critical parts, such as the ram ports, these do not run the risk of being knocked off causing construction downtime and contamination to hydraulic lines/fluid.
4) Peace of mind. With a clear top to the bucket there is less change of hitting some other object when digging close to something. You can be assured that you don't need to worry about damaging or bending the rams.
TIP! We thought we would provide a great tip for those with a tilt bucket that does not have a clear top. To reduce the risk bending rams from material packing underneath them you can cut a piece of sponge or foam (like a mattress) and stick this under the ram. This will then allow the ram to move up and down freely while stopping any dirt and material from getting in and damaging the ram.
