The Jimmy. This was the name for these in WW2.

562,750 of these were built for the US Army. They were mainly troop carriers with flat deck and canvas canopy.

Engine was a 6 cyl producing 91 hp with 5 speed gearbox with a 2 range transfer. Top speed at 75 km/h. Left hand drive.

This one in the photo was converted to a tipper and carried far above what it was built for. Being 6 wheel drive it went most places.

One day we were driving down a narrow road and we got distracted by a very large Bull in the paddock. As you can see the tray stuck out from the cabin. Well the next thing is 3 letter boxes went flying to pieces.

The owner of one of the letter boxes (Harry Pearce) turned up and heard our story. Harry thought it was a great joke despite his letters been lost through the Manawatu winds. The next person to come past was my Father John Hart who didn’t think it was so funny I suppose because we should be watching the road and be doing more productive activity than having to repair letterboxes.

We sold the pride and joy to a Army enthusiast in about 1985.
